Architecture of the Stars: Sawai Jai Singh’s Stone Instruments and the Age of Telescopes
In the eighteenth century, Sawai Jai Singh II built enormous masonry instruments to measure the positions and movements of celestial bodies. His Jantar Mantars transformed astronomy into architecture, using scale, geometry and naked-eye observation alongside the rapidly developing telescope technology of Europe.
