Writing at age 23 in Kusumapura (modern Patna), Aryabhata declared that the Earth turns on its axis while the stars stand still — a claim he backed with a sidereal-day calculation of 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.1 seconds, off from the modern atomic-clock value by roughly nine-thousandths of a second.
